Yesterday in Austria, on the St. Agatha track near Linz, the Central European Hill Climb Championship came to an end. Serbian racing driver Uroš Brkić, the only representative of our country in this prestigious competition, once again confirmed his dominance.
Throughout the entire season, Brkić competed in the Proto 3 class with the Osella PA 21/S prototype, and in the final race he finished in fourth place. Although a mishap with the steering column head in the second run reduced his chances of a podium finish, the overall result was enough for him to win the Central European championship title for the fourth consecutive time.
The St. Agatha track is 2,734 meters long and is considered one of the fastest in Europe, which gives this achievement additional weight. The race consisted of two runs, and Brkić secured fourth position in the combined time. During the season, six competitions were held across Europe, after which the Serbian driver once again proved that he is the best in his class.
By the end of the year, Brkić will compete in two more prestigious invitational events, reserved only for the best European teams. This will be an opportunity to finish the season in great style and further test the car for the upcoming year. His Osella PA 21/S is equipped with a 2000 cc engine, producing 288 horsepower and weighing only 505 kilograms.
“It was truly a beautiful race and organization, with more than 240 cars at the start and extremely strong competition with top-level drivers. On Saturday we had a good pace in practice, and on Sunday morning the second fastest time. The first race went excellently, but at the start of the second we had an issue with securing the steering wheel coupling to the steering column head. According to telemetry, that cost me about two seconds and, consequently, the podium. Still, fourth place was enough to win the championship. I am overjoyed because the season was not easy – after all, this was the first year in a new car. Now I am entering the final stretch relieved and with the desire to further improve the car and prepare it for the next season. Of course, I would like to thank the sponsors, the club, friends, and family for their immense support,” Brkić stated after the race.
