Among more than 50 competitors, Serbian racing driver Uroš Brkić, at the wheel of the “Norma M20 F” prototype, claimed second place overall and first place in class at the race that counted toward the Central European Championship (FIA CEZ) hill climb series, held in Bosnia and Herzegovina! With this success on the Cazin track, Brkić earned new points and, with a total of 61 points, strengthened his position at the top of the overall standings in the prototype class – CN/E2-SC. The 3,870-meter-long track was completed by the highest-ranked Serbian driver in a time of 2:11.716, which is also his new personal record.
With these new points, Uroš Brkić from Belgrade’s ASU “Galax” is well on his way to defending last year’s title and achieving a “hat-trick,” as he was also the best in the FIA CEZ championship in 2022 in the touring car category, driving a “VW Polo.” If he maintains the leading position in his class until the end of the season, Brkić will once again, as last year, be the only Serbian racing driver to win a title in an international competition. In the overall standings of the Cazin race, victory went to Croatian driver Laslo Šaš at the wheel of the “Reynard 2KLZY Tec 3000” Formula car, while in the prototype class, behind Brkić, was Croatian driver Filip Magdić in the cockpit of the “Gibson Nemesis RME 2000 Turbo.” The next FIA CEZ championship race will be held next weekend in Montenegro, on the track in Pljevlja.
The Serbian ace notes that the track demanded great care at the wheel. “I have been competing in Cazin for the third year in a row and I truly always return to this track with special joy. This track is technically very demanding and requires a fully prepared car and a maximally focused driver. My best time yesterday was 2:11.716, which is also my personal record on this track. I believe I gave my maximum, which is supported by the time difference between the two runs of only 34 thousandths of a second, but also by the fact that the car could have been significantly faster because I was driving on quite old tires that were slipping a lot. The reason for this is that the factory producing tires for hill climb racing shut down production in December last year, and now, due to the inability to obtain new tires, most drivers are forced to compete in several races on a single set of tires until the situation improves. It is well known in the world of motorsport that on tracks like this, a new tire can mean even a second per kilometer, so I think my time could have been several seconds faster on this track with new tires. When I take all the circumstances into account, there is nothing left for me but to be extremely satisfied with what was achieved last weekend,” Brkić told Telegraf.
